I thought the whole point in becoming an "ADMIN" on Rally Point was to keep the peace...to help RP members out.

To make sure PR members stay in line, follow the rules and don't get unruly.

So what does it mean when an admin has "BLOCKED" you from commenting on their posts?

Also, what does it mean when an ADMIN specifically mentions a post or two you've posted and basically denigrated it?

This really blew me away today when I found out I was blocked.....well, first I read about how silly or stupid or insignificant some of mine and some of other Rally members posts are...then when I tried to comment, I found out I was blocked.

Is this the type of behavior an "ADMIN" is suppose to have? I thought ADMIN was supposed to be SUPPORTIVE and to keep the peace...to keep members in check. ...and be NON BIAS.... Am I missing something?

WOW!

It's probably because that person wants to "hide" your posts, but RallyPoint currently is not able to let members "hide" others while not "blocking" them. A lot of this will change with our new roll out in the coming weeks which will make this less of an issue.

First this isn't the first time I've heard this, another RP member posted something similar when he found out an admin had blocked him. I'm going to share with you the same thing I shared with him, I really mean this. Does it matter? To me it doesn't matter. If someone doesn't want my up vote or input, I really don't care. If and when you let something like this bother you, you are letting them have space in your thoughts they don't deserve in the first place. Don't give power to anyone who doesn't deserve it.

I really don't know what to say about this. I hope everyone involved can find a way to understand the other person's point of view. I prefer for my friends even RP friends to not fight amongst themselves. I understood the analogy given by 1LT Scott Doyle and I understand what it feels like to be frustrated by having your questions changed and or having your posts merged. When this happens, there have been times when I thought whoever did the merging didn't understand the point I was trying to make regarding the subject matter was different than the one previously posted, in that case I reposted again and reworded what I was trying to say to make it more obvious that the intent of my post is different. The changing of the wording of my questions that has happened doesn't bother me at all. Should it? They're just trying to help. I've had admins add different categories or move it to one they think is more appropriate. This also doesn't bother me, and it happened when I was new to and learning how to use RP actually their doing some of these things made me a better poster. I learned at an excellerated rate by analyzing their actions.

Doesn't everyone agree that sometimes we need a way to filter subject matter or even to protect ourselves. No one will even know someone has blocked them unless it is made public by one of the parties. If a blocked person truly wants to know why he or she is blocked then he or she can go through an admin to ask them to find out, that said this is not to say that admins are to be mediators in this case, only fact finders. The blocking mechanism has a 10 day wait period after which the block can be unblocked, I think this is a great idea as it forces separation for 10 days (unless someone starts publicly posting).

Here's a thought, perhaps the whole idea of the blocking mechanism should be viewed differently. Instead of thinking of it as something negative directed at or by the person who is blocked, think of it as a positive method of cloaking, a way for the user to cloak him or herself from content.

I wouldn't have commented on this matter at all except that it came to my attention because it's in my thread. I think this may have occurred because two or more threads were waiting for each other and a mistake was made in the deployment of the comment and it ended up here.

A final thought is that I hope everyone can shake hands and agree to disagree in a respectful manner. Have a great day!

CPT (Join to see), As far as I'm concerned, it's over. If the person I blocked wants to continue to post messages to me, there is nothing I can do about it. The person I blocked just has to have the last word. He can't stand the fact I will not converse with him anymore. That's my right and I prefer to keep it that way. I don't like him and he doesn't like me. So what? I sure haven't lost any sleep over it and don't plan to. The End

The reason is likely that this individual, while an admin, is still an RP member first and foremost and does not personally find the content you create interesting. The role of an Admin is to help other members and to flag content and profiles that are breaking RP standards. There are dozens of admins on the site so if you are being blocked by one, it should not effect their overall mission. There are lots of other admins to help you.

SSG Carlos Madden Thank you for your input Carlos. It's not so much of being blocked, but it is what this person said. Looks like most of it has been removed or hidden now...I no longer see this persons comments. I took concern with this because some things he wrote specifically pointed out to one of my posts...but now that his comment is no longer there...I suppose the point is mute now.

Thanks again for your input.

Sgt Kelli Mays - actually I see the comments now......I was not looking in the wrong place. I don't care if the admin blocked me....this is not why I got upset. I don't care if the admin dislikes my posts and thinks they are low information or useless...Say what ever you want...disagree all you want....but don't go out of your way to use specific words that were used in headlines of specific posts and point out that they are worthless and useless and what ever else may have been said. I care when I'm singled out...not specifically by name, but by the name of my topic of discussion...and other members topic of discussion. This sir, to me is unprofessional.
I'm beginning to see or think I understand by reading a lot of these posts that this site is suppose to be strictly "MILITARY ORIENTED" and somewhere along the way it lost is course. I'm not sure if I'm right in my assessment, but if this is the case then perhaps RP can be slit into two sites. The one where it is now with many topics of discussion and the original one for JUST and ONLY Military discussion...this way those who feel RP has turned into something it's not suppose to be can be satisfied and those who like it the way it is can be satisfied.
I've only been a member for a short time. I am unaware of Rally Points history and how it was started and evolved away from it's apparent real/true purpose...just taking a stab in the dark.
Again, thank you for your input.

Admins are members and people first and foremost.
***DISCLAIMER - THE NEXT STATEMENT COMES FROM ME AS A MEMBER NOT AND I REPEAT NOT AN ADMIN******* As a member first, I'm personally tired of the bean, chip and other nonsensical posts. I'm tired of RP Shared Content from the National Enquirer of all places, and the re-posting of news stories from Facebook. If I want Facebook, I'll go on there. I'm frankly growing ashamed of recommending RP to my fellow vets and I hate to say that. People I considered valuable people here who had a lot of great knowledge to share with this community left. I'm truly saddened because these people don't want to come on here anymore and we are losing out on their valuable knowledge. I've had the honor of meeting some pretty awesome people from RP in person and having some great mentoring opportunities. There are a couple of folks on here that I consider to be mentors as well as friends. I would hate to see them leave completely. There are a number of folks of who have a lot to offer our younger vets and service members. I have family members on here that I want to meet these great people who I feel can share with him their knowledge to help make him a great soldier and leader. I'm done ranting as a member now and will not be making any more comments again on this topic. Whatever happens to me happens, but I had to get it off of my chest.

These are posted in "FOOD" or humor...they do not come up in regular feeds. You say potato and I say potato....Some people like it and some don't. No one says you have to go to the Food group and read this particular post. As for FB....I have it...but it's for Family....I don't do politics or other stuff on facebook.....and I have a separate Work Facebook which is only work related stuff........and for the threads that pop up on FB.......I don't want to see....I take them out of my thread so they don't pop up. Still not understanding why some of you are making such a big deal of it.
If you want to read MILITARY posts or things to do with Military or Veterans...or current affairs...then just go to the group and seek out the posts you wish to read. This is what I do....and it works just fine. I do not read any posts I'm not interested in reading.
If member do not wish to see "HUMOROUS" or "FOOD" threads, then they should removed themselves from these GROUPS/Threads....and if one day they decide they want to check out the these GROUPS all they have to do is go to the group and see what is posted.
This making a mountain out of a mole hill is just none sense.

Good thoughts Kelli. Makes sense to me. It's exactly what I do. I've followed some posts until I decide I don't want to follow anymore, and I check unfollow. It's real easy to do.

I guess I'd get blocked if I said something offensive/something someone didn't want to see/hear so instead of looking at my reply than I guess I'd be blocked. I wouldn't take it personally though, I'd live another day.

By the way, could you please tell me how did you know you were blocked Sgt Kelli Mays?

Hahahaha, I HAVE BLOCKED EVERYONE!!!! Just kidding, I certainly don't agree with opinions of everyone, but I doubt I would 'block' someone. Part of being grown up is accepting and coping with people who are 'mean'. I really can't stand that passive-aggressive stuff. Work out your disagreements or accept that you have a difference of opinion and let's not turn this into a military version of FB...

I've noticed that sometimes RP seems to "block" people from things without anyone really doing anything. It ticked me off once, and I went on a rant... then... I saw someone else go on a rant about ME blocking people - which I know I didn't do. So, sometimes I think RP gets confused.

I have only ever blocked a member because of "excessive down voting". Typically I will only block a member temporarily in order to mitigate retaliatory down-voting. However, when you wake up to someone down voting all your posts because they disagree with your opinion or you informed them they were violating an RP policy and you asked them to read through the guidelines, but they take offense - then it may be time to block someone. Besides that, an Admin may block a member because they do not want to see this persons content. I'd recommend not taking it personally.

Cheers!

LTJG (Join to see) there person I am referring to was being a real jerk and giving me and about 7 other RP members a real hard time...the top admin got involved and the situation was rectified. I was pleased with the outcome...I have not seen the admin member on RP for some time now.

Just wondering...

Should admins have to endure verbal abuse from other members? Are we not entitled to the same rights of protection as other members?

Blocking another member means I no longer have to endure being trolled by other belligerent members.

Put yourself in their shoes.

To eliminate any confusion, here is the policy & procedure document. Please read through this as it will answer pretty much all your questions. As admins we use this document as a guideline when performing our duties. Unfortunately some members take issue with what we do but we all try to be fair.

It means that they are human, and as such, also get fed up with some people's constant drama. Admins aren't paid, it's often thankless work, and they end up spending all their time dealin with other people's shortcomings. Admins are supposed to be neutral and that really takes away from the joy of speaking their minds because they are representing the needs of the company first. Sometimes, enough is enough, and they tag out.
