What is the oldest Dog Tag you have ever seen? With a home address? What do you think the "A''represents?

CSM Charles Hayden, these are my father's (Jack Curlee) dog tags from his time in the Navy during WWII. Here's a legend for the info indented on the metal blank: First name, Middle name, Last name, Serial number (deleted), Date of last tetanus shot, Branch of service, Blood type. The dog tag used is the Navy P1940 model. Although my father was an officer (LTJG), the information included is the type for enlisted personnel, as he started as a seaman apprentice in the V-12 program. Also, there is no religious preference shown which is of note as it was standard to do so.
My father died on 10SEP15, at the ripe old age of 93, so I'm now the custodian of his effects from his time in the service.

LTC Stephen C. My original dog tags are also available for distribution to the 2 grandsons. Of course mine are dtd 53. Your father's are of interest due to the information on the obverse side.
In that vein, have you recorded the family history as recited by your dad?
ALL of my 4 grandchildren have read, in my typed 20 page family history in my presence, as I recall it. How does that fit in w/ your employment?

CSM Charles Hayden, I have chronicled my father's time in the service in great detail, although via a different media. I spent many hours talking to my father about his time in the Navy and I have all his personal records as well. I put all history on Together We Served-Navy. Even the photographs are in chronological order & include narrative. Guest over from your Army TWS profile & search for Jack Douglas Curlee. You can then see a history of his time in the Navy during WWII!

LTC Stephen Curlee: I have my aunt's from WWII from the WAVES. They have the same shape as the ones you picture but are slightly curved. Maybe they wore them on the wrist?

SP5 Joel O'Brien, I can't comment on the wear of dog tags by the WAVES, but my father & other male service members wore them around the neck.

Thanks for sharing CSM Charles Hayden. To be honest the oldest dog tags I have seen in person are my own. Thanks for showing us a dog tag from a DSC awardee from North Africa in WWII.
