What opportunities are available to allow an active duty soldier some more time to dedicate towards education while still serving in a unit?

I will assume this starts with you. You obviously have at least 4 years of college. You have an Army commitment, during that commitment we ask that our young Officers learn their line duties and be fully prepared to lead their men and women in combat along side the NCO. If you remain beyond that commitment you will have several opportunities to advance your studies. Your Advanced trainjng, CGSC, the Army War College and others all provide ample opportunity to advance your degrees. During your current commitment your duty is to train your men and women, if you raise your skill set to the level of competency required of an Officer then use your spare time to advance your degree. Thank you for your service. Oh, and service for leaders refers to selfless service. It is not about me, but my unit, the Army and the defense of our country.

The Active Army sometimes allows someone at the rank of Major paid time off to pursue a Master's Degree. I know a Major from the 25th ID (who was a Captain in Korea) time to study in D.C. to complete his Degree. He was also promoted as well. Afterwards, He went to a Thai Service School equivalent to CGSOC. He is going to be Foreign Area Officer at the Thai Embassy. This Officer Speaks fluent Thai. I am in the USAR and I don't have my Master's.

LTC John Mohor sir, I did not take a full online course. That has about a 80 % dropout rate. I took the distance learning portion that had two weeks of school at Fort Dix then eight months of one weekend a month at my Army reserve unit with CGSOC instructors. We still had modules to do in between our classes and we still had papers to write as well. Including the big paper on Operation Torch. I then did a final two weeks at Fort Dix again. Then we graduated. The value of being able to discuss current events or the situation at hand in our classroom discussion was well worth it because I received a lot of points for class participation. You will not receive this if you do the full online course and others who I know who were taking it said it was extremely painful. I had barely enough patience to do the modules online. I do not recommend anybody take the full online course if they have a choice. Not everybody has free time. I sure as hell didn't! On the weekends, not only did I do my homework, I also had to take care of two younger kids two daughters ages 6 and 8 at the time. I had to cook, clean and do my homework assignments because my wife was selling her native crafts at the flea market. Why was mr. Mom and mr. Study bug at the same time. It was well worth it. I'm going to be too old to be full bird colonel anyway since I'm going to be over 60 years old when I have the below the Zone look. So I want get a master's degree unless me taking Advanced operation course makes me only a few units away from graduating with that Degree. I hope others here can tell me if cgsoc in the advanced operation course does count for a Master's Degree.

MAJ Ken Landgren I know my former company commander in the Army Reserve was able to get a fellowship to go work with a congressman and complete his master's degree. He was a West Point graduate. He was a battalion Commander a couple years ago he is probably Colonel now.

LTC (Join to see) sounds like you have your plan well figured out. If you're not gonna make COL then try and stay away from BN command unless you really want it! Especially with kids it'll take plenty of time sacrifices without a command in a 3 or XO job

While on active duty, unless on an education program, you will pursue your education on your spare time.
