What reasons have Veterans given you for NOT using Rallypoint?

I've told a few about it, but I rarely get a legit reason, which tells me it's laziness or they think it's all hype.

SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" - Mum is the word. I also won't tell SFC Stephen King that he would receive his choice of duty station and a $100,000.00 bonus for keeping the Army running for these next four years.

SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" - unfortunately not true the Army has changed promotion again I have to much time in service to be considered as per HRC. I wouldn't get out had this change not occurred.

Hell, I've told a shit load of Vets to look at Rally Point and I've been told all kinds of things like "OK, I'll look into it" and some simply tell me that they "don't have time." Well, all I can say is that FEA to those who won't take the time because in my opinion, RP is much better than that freaking gossip and bullshit site called facelift! You know what I'm saying?

I was aware of RPs existence for months before I clicked on the FB link, honestly it appeared gimmicky.. It appeared to be just another "thing" targeted at AD and Vets . I did not see it for what it is...and as I did not know anyone on it, that impression kept me from looking in. I assume it is much the same for others...

Capt Seid Waddell
SGM Erik Marquez, I didn't know anyone here either - but in another sense I knew everybody; it is the military community that I enjoyed when I was in and didn't know how much I had missed that interaction.
Even when we disagree, most comments are well thought out and respectfully presented. We tend to share a wealth of experience in the world and we also share the life of service to others - which I see less of in the civilian world.
It is a comfortable community of thinking people in my experience.

I came here from military.com some time back and never looked back. There are very few left on that site, as far as the forums go. I have had the same experience as a couple of others have with regard to telling them of the much better site on RP. It would seem that the vetting process, as loose as it is scares them away. But, since it has much the same demographics as RP, and predominantly Army and Marines, it's understandable. I'm here to stay as long as they don't go down the path that their site and management did. Their loss, but I do miss some of the old friends left behind.

There are a few that have a somewhat different opinion, MSgt. But, that adds to the fun.

SGT (Join to see) and SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" I love Rally Point, but I am still busy, so many times, I don't have time to read or post. I hate the point system and how some seem fixated on running up points vs. providing value added. Value added is and was my intent on joining. But, I have fallen off for a variety of reasons. At times this seem like more of a game than a site for veterans. I am certain, if the points were dropped, some drop immediately. Several I have asked about RP.... shy away as it seems to be game vs. a legitimate professional forum.

I'm sure there are some that focus on the points. But I'm sure there are many more that simply enjoy sharing ideas and points of view with others on RP. Sometimes, I consider posting less, but why should I if 4 out of 5 times PO2 Ed C., SSgt Mark Lines , SN Greg Wright , and many others are going to teach me something new because of that post?

COL Charles Williams - SGT (Join to see) I'm not a points-chaser myself. I used to post a lot about things I was interested in, and sometimes that got me points, sometimes not. I've tapered off quite a bit. Now, mostly, I just post the odd interesting (to me) article, peruse other posts, and respond when I feel like it. I see your point, Colonel -- I just don't think it applies to everyone (not that you said it does). By it's very nature, however, RP's target audience is a competitive bunch.
I'll never leave RP entirely, though. I enjoy the...camaraderie?...even if it is only online, with a group of people that I easily identify with.

SN Greg Wright - Hooah... we are a competitive bunch... But, my point... albeit lame... is we are all busy... I post things when I see something or have something I think has value... But, I have also seen many post endlessly... and many seem for no reason other than points...

Yeah I've run into similar problems. The Veterans I talk to on other Forums say that Rallypoint is Dominated by Right Wing Extremist and that they are trying to get away from that Crowd that is why they belong to those other Liberal Military Forums that I belong to.

SGT (Join to see) - I figure I've paid my dues, I'll belong to any Veteran Organization that is out there. I might rub some folks wrong but that is my nature to be a Contrary SOB Kraut. Those that know me expect no less.

Those I have tried to get on are fearful of retaliation from superiors. Most of my patients are on here, but some like to remain in the darkness or do not have the time. At least that is what has been revealed to me.

I can understand that. Many people post about situations that shed light into dark spots of their organizations. Had I joined RP a few years sooner, I'd probably have done the same thing.
