Utah/Arizona, the Vermilion Cliffs/Grand Staircase Escalante area. WAY off the beaten path in the empty country north of the Grand Canyon. Grand scenery on BLM and Forest Service land so you can camp about anywhere you want to pull over. However, be careful, you are so far out in some of those places a wrecker bill can run two grand or more. And it's hot in the summer, spring and fall are far better.

Been there twice. Escalante is most of S. Utah, Love Bryce, Paria Toadstools(beware quicksand), Capitol Reef. Too hot for "The Wave"-long line at Kanab BLM. Found stranded cars along Cottonwood Canyon Rd. Fun drive, use 4 wheel drive. Kodachrome SP awaits to the north. N. Rim of Grand Canyon is below Kanab, Zion to the west. Good place to stay. center of most sights.

SPC Richard Levine - Gotta love that area, right? The 4Runner treads lightly through it all. When the Wave is maxed out for the day and they are letting no people in, try White Pocket, as good but a longer drive.

YES! On line, they gave 2 permits a day. At The BLM door at 9am, maybe 8? I rented a Jeep, Ghost towns from movies & watch out for cattle in the creeks.

SGT David A. 'Cowboy' Groth - Try this link to a short 3:48 MP4 video from "Wandering West Michigan" a video-blog from 2007 about Pasties. I know you'll try one.

I grew up in Greater-Detroit (Wayne County) and in the UP (Marquette) until I joined the Service. stuck on the east coast ever since. In the fall I would drive out the Grand Rapids region and hunt around Bellaire with my Brother-In-Law. Great country!

We have found Croatia to be our best vacation location. We have stayed in Zagreb but found Dubrovnik to be our favorite city in Croatia. We lived in Europe for 12 years but always gravitated back to Croatia and its many seaside cities. Currently living in Naples ,Fl.

Pagosa Springs, Colorado. It's fairly close to home and easy to get to. Also a "gateway" into the Southern Colorado Rocky Mountains with great winding roads, terrific scenery and lotsa wildlfe. Nothing but rest and relaxation!

Well, living in vacation land, that's a toughie .... With my grandkids, that means Maine, Northern NY or Virginia. I do also love The Appalachian region of North Carolina. I am looking forward to seeing more of this beautiful country eventually, but first a camper, and a truck to pull it.

So true that there is a life of beauty to be discovered in the beautiful USA. We drove east to west time and time again when our Son and family lived in Utah and we took a different route each time, going and coming, and each trip was a WOW ! Saw the whole Country now and do not regret one minute of it.
