Many military installations in Southern states were named after Confederate veterans to get Southerners to fight in World War 1. It just goes to show you, if you want gratitude, get a dog.

History cannot be undone and if they were terrible leaders the American people need to know that and understand that there have been terrible things that have happened under bad leadership as well as good things under good leadership. We can't deny the bad because we don't want the stigma it carries with it. Everything that happens is for our learning, enrichment, and improvement.

Very simple...leave well enough alone...the historic environment then versus now has no relevance in the prior naming the bases. They were named based on a recommendation and selection process that honored those gentlemen for their prior service rendered at that time of an action or actions honorably carried out by them...end of conversation. If prior slave ownership was or is an issue it is a moot point today and if someone wants to make an issue of slavery then address the issue of native born slavery on native born slavery or African tribe slavery on African tribe slavery or middle eastern slavery on middle eastern slavery...the point is "slavery" as abhorrent as it is was not invented in the United States...it has been around in one form or another since King Tut...next time a group of Antifa or BLM folks try to tear down a statue or attempt to force a name change to a facility I suggest windage of 2 clicks up and 3 to the right.

The "PC" way to attempt to erase history. My learned knowledge of this. I still don't agree with it.

They can rename them all they want but I will continue to call them by their current correct names. These bases honor leadership abilities not political ideologies.

If this is the most pressing issue in the United States right now then I must have missed something. We are teetering on the brink of WW III and everybody has their ass in a knot over the names of Army Posts. Lets solve the real problems facing this nation and then we can knit pick over the names of our Army Posts.

I think leaving them tells a story about American history that we cannot afford to lose. All my ancestors who fought in the war were Union, not Rebel. Even so, the words of General Grant to his troops after accepting the surrender of General Lee at the end of the Civil War should inform all of us: "Refrain from celebrations in the field," Grant told his men. And, "The Rebels are our countrymen again." The Rebels are our countrymen again. Profound. This thought is completely lost on those who would hide, ignore, change history, and for what? Who is really harmed by the names? Those who don't understand or appreciate American history and how it should inform how and why we do what we do today.

It’s disgrace…Confederate veterans should not be dishonored by the Woke agenda. What is next? Washington and Jefferson were slave owners. Should we rename or destroy their monuments? We should honor our past…not erase it!
