SPC Kortney Kistler
This isn't directed at you, but I have always seen that as a big problem. And this is why I have seen too many NCOs in positions they don't belong in.

SPC Kortney Kistler I think the issue is more broad than that. There are plenty who should not even make is past Basic and AIT. I was a drill sergeant during the surge of Afghanistan. Many troops should of 1.) Not been allowed in and 2.) Not been pushed through for numbers. My BN didnt play that game. Either you made it or you didnt.

Notification is sent to your Chain and your CSM. Then you will have some explaining to do. Then pray you can get another shot at ALC in the future.

Lots of splaining.... MSG (Join to see). I can still remember when Soldiers from a unit I was in had similar issues, it was usually the entire chain of command to the Division or Corps CSMs office to explain how we allowed the person to attend in the 1st place...

Why would you SSG (Join to see)? You need to do what it takes to complete the course in a satisfactory manner. If not, your future in the Army will be limited.

Because yoy are not prepared. For instance, I see 25B's come to my school who haven't done anything related to their MOS in years. And there isn't time to teach them all the 10 level material again. We do what we can....

Yes sir but Kids today have no concern on what happens to them if fail they don't care and if they fired they don't care.

Depends on your chain of command in reality, but the book answer is that you'd lose your rocker, be counseled, receive remedial training/ mentoring at your unit based on your deficiency, and once your unit felt you were ready to return/flag lifted, you'd get another shot

I wouldn’t say NCO Leadership School was a cake walk, but if you didn’t score high you just didn’t try very hard. Buds training is tough it’s designed to weed out the weak, but basic training isn’t tough it’s just a hassle, ground weeks at Ft Benning wasn’t hard it’s just a hassle. Unless your in some type of SF program they’re not tough it’s more of a hassle. Of course, they’re not trying to fail anyone, but the basics you know, they’re just building on that, but the bottom end requirements of most classes are very simple.

We have this situation occur in the WO community and well no Soldier is different. First and foremost, why would anyone want to fail? Checking out and as 1SG Gomez said, courses are not designed that way, if someone fails it is usually an individual decision and intentional or disciplinary. The result is ALWAYS a 1059 having not met course standards if merely for failing from the academic side and that usually will follow your file to every board and action forward. Not a good situation to put one's self in.

why are they wasting time with people who I Believe don't want be in military if already have attitude what happens if I fail ALC? I spent 16.5 yrs in the military I went to 34 different schools and never failed any I always was eager to study for any tests never did say what happens if fail well that was never crossed my mind. I wish things were different and I could stayed in but do to 1 NCOER that was bad and my Career was over with and I tell the people that made my career over with I been out sense 1990 and I still wish things could have been a better I enjoyed my career while I was in. It sounds like you lack confidence in your ability to meet the satisfactory standards. Perhaps you tend to second guess your abilities. Be confident, if you know you are weak in a particular subject matter rehearse, practice, work on it. Above all stop thinking about achieving a passing grade. Your mind set is all wrong. I was an Infantryman, our mindset was not to just pass, one should always seek to maximize everything you do. In my day it was called BNCOC. B stood for basic. I don't know what is covered in "ALC". Perhaps I am all wrong, I am from a different ARMY.

You should have a hard time getting promoted and might even have a bar to re-enlist given to them.

I retired in 2001 and things have certainly changed. I will assume that ALC is what use to be called ANCOC. How in the hell can one fail. Put fort a little effort in the areas you know you are weak in. One never quits, gives in or fails, this is just not acceptable.

I would Say it is your career on the line If you like the military I would pass the course If you are having problems bring it up to instructor of that Class. I took 34 military schools and passed all of them. So pay close attention on what they are trying to teach you. Good Luck

Fail ALC? well if the SM gets a "failed to achieve course standards " on the 1059 it could mean that the SM should consider seeking for a career outside the Army. If the SM gets dismissed from the course due health or administrator issues, he/she might get a second chance. Depending on the branch and the needs of the Army, the SM could continue their career and retire.
