There is an old farm saying, "Don't piss on an electric fence." Although, I have to test the theory on occasion, the admins do a good job, overall. This is my playground, don't f&&& it up.

Most of the long timers don't give them out except to flag the discussion for admin action (abuse). That said, you can't help but pick up "drive bys" after a while. I'm probably in the 20+ range by now (received) if not more, not including the ones for "disagreement."

Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS
PO2 William Allen Crowder - I wasn't claiming to be anywhere near the top. I'm "mild" in personality, and haven't been here as long as some. Just highlighting how easy it is to get them just from longevity. if you delve into controversial topics that number is going to jump quick.

It takes a lot to get a down vote from me. You have basically defame someone, or be a straight up bigot.

SSG Carlos Madden SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4" I am pretty sure we know who would win the most-down votes given in 2016.. Not sure as an Admin if it would be in the best taste to reveal who however. What say you?

I don't give them that often, and during my whole time here, I believe I've only received a total of 4 down votes, but for opinion, not for breaking any rules.

I haven't heard from Walt or PO2 Crowder in a while... but both were magnets for down votes with their contrarian takes on things.
I wonder if they are really gone or just blocked me for some reason...

I got three the other night from one person. I was so happy and told them has free reign. I feel honored. SGT (Join to see)

Nah... the jerk that started it has vanished since the election... but on another note, he's the guy that caused me to clean of my profile and turned me against unverifieds...

That I don’t know .. maybe s’body ‘might’ deserve a down vote but it wouldn’t come from me.. i’ve Accidentally hit on it but was able to recover and upvote.. can people be that objective of a comment and give a down-vote ? Only one person has that level of knowledge and they are not on our earthly level.. people need to not try to put themselves on the same level of our savior. Let the savior do that,
Until then vote up or just don’t vote ..
you only lose 3 not voting..or 10 not commenting, .. the person who doesn’t vote.. i’m Not losing any sleep over it.. it’s kind of an ego trip for some.. we all need that occasionally.. i’m Here to have a good time and learn s’thing occAsionally and contribute when I can.. I don’t know how many points my comment will/may get .. maybe somebody gets s’thing out of this , I don’t want to see any bruised egos .. there might be s few.. you all have an awesome day !

I think it’s you SGT (Join to see) after all I got a down vote just for thanking you for one of your posts! Am I right?

I have mixed feelings about having Up Down votes at all. It is nice to be able to commend or agree, but in most real situations in life there is not one simple answer, and a person's opinion almost always overlooks something, or can come from a source that may not be reliable. Real problems call for teams of people with different talents and backgrounds, and differences of opinions are useful even if the first opinion is good. Always more to learn. There are so few down votes they are underused.. Up, down, and other opinion would be more constructive.

I agree with you that it's not always as simple as agree or disagree. But that's part of the reason for downvoting. And I've become a big fan of the down-vote button against wasteful responses. From the source:
"When should I down vote?
Use your down votes whenever you encounter a post that is unprofessional, completely inaccurate, lacks thought, is unrelated to the topic, or obviously does not add value to the conversation.
Some may also choose to down vote because of a very strong difference of opinion. This is definitely your right, although offering an explanation in the form of a response or comment is considered professional courtesy if choosing to vote this way."

If you get I chance, please check out my old status update regarding this more in-depth as well.
