"The work is part of the Asset and Infrastructure Review Commission approved by Congress in 2018 but just getting underway this year." Amazing how long it takes to get things moving. Would not want to see closings until new facilities were opened.

"How many VA medical centers should the Department close each year?
Veterans Affairs leaders will recommend closing three major medical centers and more than 170 other outpatient health facilities in coming years as part of an ongoing review of the department’s footprint across America, according to documents obtained by Military Times."

I have to wait 2-3 months for a non-emergency appointment at my local VA, Ft Meade, SD.
Hot Springs is 1 1/2 hours drive to Ft Meade in good weather.
Closing the VAMC there does not make sense to me, it adds to the load a Ft meade.
There is a South Dakota State Veterans Home there. This is the medical care they offer:
A local physician comes to the Veterans Home regularly and is on call for other medical services. The nursing staff of the Nursing Care Unit, continuously supervised by Registered Nurses, provides whirlpool baths, assistance in activities in daily living, supervised medications, and other personal services.

I do not know how many Vets live there, or how many use the VAMC there, but this causes more problems.

Leave well enough alone.
