What is there to learn from vets who wont go to the VA because they say someone else needs it more?

There are hundreds of details what this member was involved in, the era, how young he was, what support he returned too, what his command was like healthy or toxic? Classic Cause Effect
Side Note example, there may be a 20 year gap, then news states what chemicals he was exposed, chemicals in the water CONUS, or even a break from standards in operations to underman your unit

The VA is for veterans. There is no other qualifier. They will prioritize services. That’s their job. Not his. If he’s a vet it is there for him. I had this argument with my dad.

SFC Casey O'Mally - Do you have Tricare listed as a 'secondary' inurance? If so, the VA can bill it for NSC conditions... although in that case the money is ultimately coming from the US government... a different pot on the same stove!
In my case, I received a Disability Discharge that was 10% below cutoff for retirement, so TriCare isn't an option. I'm at 70% disabled now, and most of my medical problems ARE service connected. However, I have a job with good insurance. When the VA treats an NSC condition, they bill my insurance just as a private doctor's office would, so it is actually generating money for the VA, and offsets the cost of the VA treatment for service-connected veterans
I avoid getting treatment for my service-connected conditions through my private insurance because I end up getting BILLED BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY!!
As far as waiting for treatment, the VA priority levels are based more on FUNDING and ENROLLMENT, not who gets treated first. While it is true that if your VA Medical facility has too many enrolled patients, they can stop accepting enrollment of Priority 7 and Priority 8 patients. They use the same triage criteria as a private medical center. Treatment is prioritized by URGENCY, NOT disability rating (priority)
Many times the 'wait times' experienced by VA patients are really not only based on the number of patients, they are caused by INEFFICIENT/BAND MANAGEMENT. I was a patient at the Long Beach, CA VA Medical Center for 21 years. It was a miserable place. Waiting as long as FIVE HOURS to see a doctor for a SCHEDULED appointment, and sometimes MONTHS to even get an appointment (and that is just the tip of the iceberg)
When I moved to the Seattle area, the difference between this VA and Southern California's VA hospitals was literally night and day. It has its issues, but it is actually a VERY good medical center with responsive staff. A polar opposite of SoCal. I actually met a clerk up here who used to work at the VA in Long Beach. He said that "The problem with Long Beach is INDOLENCE and bad management."

There are qualifiers for VA care. All Vietnam veterans,a purple heart recipient, any veteran on pension, any veteran with 10% or more disability are eligible for VA Healthcare. Other veterans are means tested based on income.

It could be several reasons.
Survivors guilt
Maybe they are afraid of the VA
maybe they are avoiding treatment because they are avoiding coming to terms with their issues whether it is mental or physical.
Maybe they aren’t eligible for VA services and it’s easier to say they don’t want to go instead of answering questions as to why they can’t get coverage there
Maybe being around vets brings back memories
There isn’t one answer

I remember when I Joined in 1976 they beat us with Article 134 and if we went to medical too often we would be charged, as my service continued I developed knee problems medical said take aspirin and ice it (after a few visits I stop going), after I got out I went to the VA got my evaluation I got 0% rating and all they wanted to do was scope my knees I also had to explain my history each time I could see a doctor because they were always different and that’s after waiting months to get a appointment. I had to work through my pain (as they told us in the Military) because I needed to feed a family forgetting the VA, now 30 years later I’m lucky if I can walk a mile.
We can spend Billions on Illegal Immigrants giving them housing, healthcare, Food, Education and free travel but we can’t find money for Veterans who lost legs, arms or both, not to for get the Vets family and modifications to their homes. Where are all the Veterans organizations to put pressure on Congress or even the active duty because someday I will be them, because your government failed to live up to their commitment to to those who Served!

Man so I am using a teeter inversion table daily. I went from not being able to walk a block to doing much more and avoiding surgery.
I suggest 100% getting a teeter inversion table. Their is a learning curve. Just do not do a complete inversion all at once. Learn your balance point on it and slowly invert. It is graduated with a center balance and you can adjust it by height. If you are top heavy then you need to add a few inches to the adjustment.

Yah I remember they would call it malingering and you would get an extra duty assignment if you even were acted like you could not go....you get rushed through the physicals on the ship ...I mean being 18 and on a ship you are not going to be able to like know how to listen to your own body and stand up for yourself if you are really having a medical issue...

ter, all disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces, all conduct of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces, and crimes and offenses not capi- tal, of which persons subject to this chapter may be guilty, shall be taken cognizance of by a gener- al, special, or summary court-martial, according

b. Elements. The proof required for conviction of an offense under Article 134 depends upon the nature of the misconduct charged. If the conduct is pun- ished as a crime or offense not capital, the proof must establish every element of the crime or offense as required by the applicable law. If the conduct is punished as a disorder or neglect to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces, or of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces, then the following proof is required:
(1) That the accused did or failed to do certain acts; and
(2) That, under the circumstances, the accused’s conduct was to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces or was of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces.
c. Explanation.
(1) In general. Article 134 makes punishable acts in three categories of offenses not specifically cov- ered in any other article of the code. These are referred to as “clauses 1, 2, and 3” of Article 134. Clause 1 offenses involve disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces. Clause 2 offenses involve conduct of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces. Clause 3 offenses involve noncapital crimes or of- fenses which violate Federal law including law made applicable through the Federal Assimilative Crimes Act, see subsection (4) below. If any conduct of this nature is specifically made punishable by another article of the code, it must be charged as a violation of that article. See subparagraph (5)(a) below. How- ever, see paragraph 59c for offenses committed by commissioned officers, cadets, and midshipmen.
(2) Disorders and neglects to the prejudice of g o o d o r d e r a n d d is c ip lin e in th e a r m e d fo r c e s (clause 1).

Tell it like it is! I listed my reasons in my post but I let this one unsaid.
We've got veterans sleeping on the streets in our major cities many of whom are addicted to drugs. We're spending $86,000,000 to put illegals up in hotels. Were paying a company to schedule flights and buses to transport children and reunite them with their families who are here illegally.
Our military is going to pay for gender reassignment surgeries for people who are joining just to get an Addadicktomy or to see Dr. Kutcherkokoff. Thousands, perhaps millions of dollars will be spent on hormone therapy as well as PREP drugs to help prevent HIV. And don't forget that many of them are on Psychotropics because despite all the surgeries they still aren't experiencing the happiness they think they deserve.
I can't imagine having to serve with someone who is a different person depending on what time they took their last pill. What if they are captured? Middle Easterners especially get a kick out of a "woman" sprouting a beard because there's no medication available. We're spending money we need for ships to make artificial men and women.
This country has developed strange priorities over the last 10 years. I have serious doubts as to whether we will survive as the world's foremost republic. We're welcoming the takers and leaving the givers to rot. What happens when they decide they don't want to give any more?
