Establishing no-fly zones only makes sense when there are fixed areas that are no-fly zones SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. The operations on the ground are too fluid for conventional forces not to mention special operators. IMHO we do not need to telegraph our actions and establish no-fly zones in an active and periodically escalating war.
No-fly zones create seams in the airspace which can be exploited by a determined enemy.
If the USA and our allies do not attack Syrian government forces it is reasonable for us to tell "the Syrian regime ... to avoid areas where coalition forces have been operating. And we will continue defend them and, if need be, we will send aircraft again to defend our forces."
If we are engaging Syrian forces it I reasonable for them to respond to the threat.
I hope our operational guidelines, goals and objectives are focused on destroying ISIS al Nusra front and their nefarious allies.
