SP5 Mark Kuzinski This is really the Government at its worse. Most of these individuals were lead to believe they actually qualified for these bonuses and some paid a hefty price. The individuals that handed these out have gone to jail, but why should these soldiers face this burden - there should be payment plans established and large amounts forgiven based on each individual's situation (or) the Government should just forgive these bonuses and walk away! Just my opinion on the matter and some suggestions. Very Sad!

I can think of at least 10 other avenues they could go down to recoup $$$$$$$$ than Military service members

"Veterans say they feel ‘betrayed’ by having to return money for an error that wasn't their fault"

Roger that. The only similar case I have run across involved a LT I served with in Viet Nam. Due to an error the government made he was paid as a LT Col instead of a LT. He tried to get Admin to correct the error for several months, to no avail.

He ended up putting the excess into the 10% savings we had available so that he would have the lump sum to pay the AF back once he got back to the world. The 10% interest was presumably his to keep, although I was not there to see when he rotated back Stateside.

But the machine always wins in these matters - BOHICA.
