This should be tagged humor as well since the years when US soldiers and marines were in combat during Christmas are vastly outnumbered by the years this nation was not in combat.
Significant wars since the revolutionary war ended:
War of 1812 {1812-1813} ended before Christmas 1814
Mexican-American War (1846-1847) ended before Christmas 1848
US Civil War [1861-1864} ended before Christmas 1865
[too short] Spanish-American War {February 15, 1898. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898}
WWI [1917-1918} ended before Christmas 1918
WWII {1941-1944} ended before Christmas 1945
before Korean War {1950-1953}
Vietnam War {1964-1974} ended before Christmas 1975
GWOT [2001-until it ends}
Some troops may have been fighting on Christmas during the Indian wars in the 19th century but most were not.
