Jimmy Stewart trained here in Sioux City when the airbase here trained pilots for WWII. Side note- Louis Zamperini trained here as well. Little added bonus to the story today Col. Love the reads on Josephine Baker and David Niven

A book that I own and have read about James Stewart but not His Hollywood time but His Military Service. James Stewart on entering the Military as a Private then advanced to Private First Class then as a Corporal before becoming a Commissioned Officer and held all the ranks from 2Lt up to Brigadier General. He stated acting was fun but what He did in the Military was what was important. Prior to WWII He was an instructor pilot in B17s, during WWII He was Commander of a Bomb Wing and flew 23 combat missions in a B24, including the Normandy Invasion. His policy with the Press, He didn't even allow them on His base, He said they just get in the way and We have a War to fight. General Stewart also had flown the B52 including a combat Mission into North Viet Nam and also broke the Mach 2 speed in a B58 Hustler. One of His son's a Major in the US Marines was KIA in Viet Nam.
