Sad news CW5 Jack Cardwell that a Fort Bragg paratrooper was injured Wednesday. June 27, 2018 morning after a parachute malfunctioned during a training exercise.
The incident occurred at the Laurinburg-Maxton Air Base during the mid-morning hours, officials said.
Authorities said the paratrooper made a hard landing and survived, but suffered serious injuries.
The extent of the victim's injuries was not immediately available, but the paratrooper was flown to a local hospital for treatment after the incident.
Laurinburg-Maxton is a known home of the Army Golden Knights, but officials said the injured soldier was not a member of that group.
The incident was under investigation Wednesday. The paratrooper's identity was pending."
I am thankful this paratrooper survived the hard landing and pray that he will recover and be reunited with his family and friends.
Prayers for his family while he is being treated and recovering.

LTC Stephen F. - Thank you Sir, the other guy that was entangled with me as we came down hit hard too, but came out alright too.
I remember the Medics standing over me asking me if I was ok, but I was out of breath at the time, and couldn't answer them quickly. Lol

I am glad they didn't attempt CPR which can break ribs or worse start a field autopsy SGT (Join to see) :-)

LTC Stephen F. I told the battalion commander I was sorry to have broken my M60, he said that I'll get a new one and I did the next day.

Hate to hear it, CW5 Jack Cardwell. I hope the jumper is ultimately OK.
I never had a malfunction on a military jump. I’d sure hate to be the rigger that packed the parachute.

Lots to look at before or in addition to riggers job.
Weak exit can lead to failed opening
Exit when too close and behind another AC
Weather anomaly
Jumper messed with the chute rigging after pre-jump
Meterial failure be it with no external force or with some type of contamination

No question about it, SGM Erik Marquez, and I’m sure a complete and thorough investigation will follow to examine all the factors you’ve mentioned. The article, as expected, says little but that the canopy “didn’t open fully”.
I was never a military rigger, but I did get an FAA senior rigger certificate, so riggers are near and dear to my heart. Personally, I hope no blame is attached to the rigger, but I’m confident that the investigation will include the rigger and his packing.
