Why the Massachusetts governor won’t send his state’s National Guard to the border

Well actually the governor is making a statement in regards to what the expectations of his Guard personnel will be directed to do as part of the given border mission. We both should be able to agree on that notion and intent.

MAJ James Woods - concur. More to the point tho- if the guys want to go- they get ADOS days and go- the Governor has nothing to say about it. This is not a unit deployment in most cases- it is a onesie- twosie type on the Air side- and maybe more of a small squad on the Army side. My point is he is using something to make a statement that is not relevant to the context of the Guard mission there. Surveillance, communications, and drug interdiction is the Guard mission set. Not guarding detainees or even arresting illegal border crossings. The story (writer as well) and the governor are using this to prop a whole different issue. I am not disagreeing with you- merely stating what the facts truly are versus what they are presented to be. Meza talking about someone going to jail or being partner to a crime is speaking from being passionate about a subject and uninformed about what the Guard truly does there. But I did see a FB meme on it so....

Also just learned this morning the governors of Colorado, New Jersey, NH, RI, CT, NY, and Delaware have also issued declarations that they have turned down the request by federal government for ARNG troops if it means supporting the "zero tolerance" policy and Maryland, NC, and VA are pulling troops back from the border as result of the "zero tolerance" policy separating families.
This was clearly before Trump signed latest EO stopping the actions of the separation of families while criminally prosecuting the parent(s).

LT Brad McInnis - nothing- read my string. I actually always like debating with MAJ James Woods as he is clear and concise in his argument/point. We most likely would be beer drinking buddies as well. I am not put off by differences of opinion. I am not always right and seeing the other side is also valuable too

Well, okay, the President has now suspended by EO the practice of separating illegal aliens from their children in detention, pending actual legislation from Congress. So ... what is the Massachusetts Governor's BS excuse for not supporting the legitimate border mission going to be now?

MAJ James Woods - Obama didn't have this headache even though he as separating kids from their "parents"... So, in actuality it does matter who is in the White House.

SGT Cort Landry - Actually the headache Obama had was prosecuting the family on civil violations that allowed families released under specific terms of supervision or monitoring led to political attacks using the term "catch and release". So yeah governors and other elected officials will always turn an issue or policy into a political agenda regardless of who's in the Oval office nor the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of a policy.

LTC (Join to see) - Well since the MA governor along with the governors of CO, NJ, RI, NC, VA, NH, CT, and MD have all made similar statements (two of the states are calling back their troops from the border mission) before Trump signed the EO. So I'll assume each governor will claim moral victory and reconsider sending troops to support the original mission.
