McNamara says that U.S. has no plans to send combat troops to Vietnam

At a news conference, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara says that the United States has no plans to send combat troops into Vietnam. When asked whether the United States intended to increase its activities in Vietnam, he replied, “Wait and see.” By 1969, more than 500,000 American troops were in South Vietnam.

He was also the man who came up with the Project 500,000. Sending sub par soldiers to Vietnam. We had some of those individuals who came though Infantry AIT at Fort McClellan in 1968. We even received a complete Detroit street gang. I hope they were separated at the replacement depots in Vietnam.

Yep, they were referred to as Group 4s. Had to take some on the submarines, scary situation since a single individual could be responsible for saving the boat (ship to others).

What about the McNamara .... well, less that mentally competen... thousands to prove borderline mentally off soldiers could be just as good. Lots of the McNamara ... with LBJ troops were killed because they had low IQ’s. Wonder if LBJ an Mac bet a dollar on this sad reality?
