Memento comes from the imperative form of meminisse, a Latin verb that literally means "to remember." (The term memento mori, meaning "a reminder of mortality," translates as "remember that you must die.") The history of memento makes it clear where its spelling came from, but because a memento often helps one remember a particular moment, people occasionally spell the term momento. This is usually considered a misspelling, but it appears often enough in edited prose to have been entered in most dictionaries as an acceptable variant spelling.
Examples :
The box on the shelf in her closet is filled with mementos of Julie's basketball career—awards, newspaper clippings, team photographs, and her old uniform.

Memorandums of modification to the myriad regulations covering bringing back mementos from combat have evolved over the millennia as multiple weaponry. munitions, and body parts have become desirable souvenirs. :-)
On the other hand, meaningful mementos of life among family and friends are oft-magnificent displays of martial and family bliss and matriculation in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana and overseas in Macedonia, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Malta, The Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mexico, Micronesia, Moldova.Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, and Mozambique.
However in the Muslim-dominated Maldives Islands and totalitarian-Myanmar the bliss is limited to those who hold power.
