Good morning and Happy Independence Day RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "In the Shadow of the Moon." The South American 2019 total solar eclipse was July 2, 2019. The shadow of the Moon touched down east of New Zealand, crossed the Pacific Ocean, and made landfall along the Chilean coast with the Sun low on the western horizon. Captured in the foreground here are long shadows still cast by direct sunlight in the final moments before totality began. The almost totally eclipsed Sun briefly shines like a diamond ring in the clear, darkened sky.
