APOD: 2020 March 25 - Star Forming Region S106

Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Star Forming Region S106." Sharpless 2-106 (S106) is only two light years wide and lies about 2,000 light years away in the constellation Cygnus (the Swan). It is both an emission and reflection nebula, due to the light it emits from ionized gases and the dust that reflects that light. It may not look like it, but the "thorax" of the butterfly near the center of the image is where the star (InfraRed Source, or IRS-4) is located. Creation continued.
