In spite of the daring and seeming "glamor" of a high-speed police-chase, I would question the wisdom of them because of the number of "innocents" that are put in harm's way. I see our Deputies driving like a bat-out-of-hell and to wonder if that call is REALLY that urgent, or if a couple more minutes if they were driving safely would make that much difference. Fire apparatus is only allowed to go five mph over the speed limit.

I found already that a neighboring Department that has a policy not to make high speed pursuits many don't stop for them. One such Department they followed them into out town but did pull over for our Police Officer, (ME) and was arrested by the Officer from the other town. It was because of their policy He didn't stop but knew that wasn't our policy. Having a policy not to pursue created more problems than it solved. You still have to consider the lives and safety of Yourself, other Officers, the public and even the idiot that ran. Once in pursuit however Town lines aren't barriers IAW the Massachusetts General Laws and they can be chased or followed as far as need be.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter When I lived in Albuquerque, APD had a no-pursuit policy, but NMSP didn't, so idiots might get away from APD, but they weren't going to get away from NMSP.

That is like watching O J Simpson flee the LAPD.
Which reminds me of LAPD’s pursuit of Rodney King in the early 1990s. Very different conclusion, King was not a nice person, nor were the cops.
