The problem is the SCOTUS can interpret the Constitution based on ideology. It’s been done before and can happen again. Especially if the Democrats pack the court, and that can be done.

I even find the adjective "popular" disturbing in this context.
The term "assault weapon" is a construct of the left. The purpose of that construct is to disguise their intent. I am still waiting for a gun grabber to give me a rational explanation why one semi-automatic magazine fed weapon is acceptable and another is not. Until I receive such an explanation I can only assume that their intent is to confiscate all semi-automatic weapons and criminalize me and like minded people who will not surrender those weapons under any circumstances.
