I was stationed at Long Bihn from September 1971 to September 1972. LBJ still had problems; prisoners were overdosing and there was still some racial tension.

Thank You for sharing PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. I never heard of this story at the time. I didn’t even know the US Army had such a prison in Vietnam. I was under the impression Military ‘prisoners’ were sent to prisons in Germany.

As a Vietnam Veteran and involved in Military Police type duties all of us were aware of the Army LBJ although We stopped sending prisoners there but instead to the Marines 3rd MAF Brig which was a short drive from our location. the problems there were I guess a reason We changed where our prisoners were sent although I'll admit I wasn't aware of all the problem this post had pointed out at Long Binh Jail.

I notice that a lot of the problems were in 1968 which may explain why from Da Nang We stopped sending prisoners to LBJ but instead to the Marines 3rd Marine Amphibious Force Brig which was in our own area. Of course then it was easier to escort prisoners to jail as it was closer and nl y took minutes and not hours . I wasn't aware of a lot of the problems LBJ had although I guess We all knew it wasn't a good place to go.
