The official global death toll from COVID-19 eclipsed 6 million on Monday — underscoring that the pandemic, now entering its third year, is far from over.
The milestone, recorded by Johns Hopkins University, is the latest tragic reminder of the unrelenting nature of the pandemic even as people are shedding masks, travel is resuming and businesses are reopening around the globe.
Remote Pacific islands, whose isolation had protected them for more than two years, are just now grappling with their first outbreaks and deaths, fueled by the highly contagious omicron variant.

WOW! We have eclipsed the 6 million Covid or Covid related death toll... That is an almost unbelievable and totally serious number, PO1 William "Chip" Nagel! When I viewed your post I was aghast at the number, so I wanted to drill down a bit into those numbers and here is what I found:
When one takes the total number of deaths attributed to the Covid Pandemic it totals 6,022,973 against a world wide number of cases that totals 447,313,330, which is huge! Those figures stated, the Simple mortality rate is currently at 1.347% of the total Covid cases... I am not trying to diminish the seriousness of the numbers, but there are other diseases which yield much higher mortality rates, I am sure, although I don't have those statistics at my ready.
When I looked at our United States numbers, we have had some 80,917,522 cases with a resultant mortality number of 984,020 deaths, which equates to 1.226% Now, these numbers are not at all ideal, but at least as a country, we fared better than most... I hope we never see the likes of this pandemic ever again and I hope we have all learned something from it...going forward.

I was ready for you to make a smarmy remark. You fooled me!!! I am glad, like you, that the US has fared better than average. Still, that's almost a million US deaths that could have been much lower with the proper response at the onset. Stay safe my friend!
