New mental health scholarships designed to counter VA staff shortfalls

Starting next summer, Veterans Affairs officials will award scholarships to students studying mental health care in exchange for a promise that the recipients work for the department after graduation, the latest effort from leaders to try to fill critical staffing vacancies.

100% support these type of initiatives. They should start broadly advertising the scholarships, the eligibility for the PSLF (loan forgiveness)*, and other programs that students may not be aware they they would be eligible for working at the VA.

* Side note: I was completely unaware of the change made to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program - you can now claim your military time (couldn't in my day when I first came in)!!

Thanks for the information. I have a granddaughter graduating high school next spring and enrolled in a SD state college. She wants to get a degree in psychology. I will send her a link to this article. She has a sports scholarship already but this would help.
