Often ad's seem to do the opposite of selling the product but get so annoying You decide You will NEVER buy their crap. What ever happened to ad's that may even have been actually funny or entertaining. Also when You keep seeing the same ad over and over and over again in a close time frame maybe even minutes it just ticks You off and You may even turn the sound off not to hear them. at all !

BUT We Remember Them...
And Then, Even if Sub-Consciously, We Buy The Products.
It's Intentionally Done... Every Word & Sound, Is Carefully Selected In An Advertisement.

Trying to look at it with as little bias as possible, I really don't think there is any up-side to companies advertising their (claimed) views on controversial topics. One fact that politicians have long known is that it is far easier to get people to hate something than to get them to like something. When a company takes a stance on a politically or socially controversial topic what usually happens is that they attract a small number of people and offend a small number of people, but the reality is that the people they offend are far more likely to actually change their buying habits. Also, with today's social media, the people who have a strong opinion have a ready ability to reach and incite others who might not feel quite as strongly or might not have noticed the issue before.

Part of the problem is that many large firms (who ought to know better) rely strongly on their "Marketing" department and whichever advertising firm they have on contract. Marketing and Advertising are largely filled by bright young people fresh out of college, anxious to "do something" -- they see a social issue and think "we should take a stand on this" but often their personal feelings on the issue are not even close to the feelings of the company's customer base.

Bud Lite will undoubtedly be studied in college marketing courses years from now. First they offended their core customers, then they doubled-down with a statement attacking their core customers, then in a clumsy attempt at damage control they tried to back off from their initial position, which didn't help with their former core customers but managed to seriously offend the people they had tried to attract.

I am not sure why these companies think these ads will sell their products.

Open Your Refrigerator And Look At The Brands Of Food, See What Products You Have In Your Cupboard;
Which Brand Of Cereal Does Your Family Consume, Which Bank Do You Use, ~~ Etc...
We've All Heard, "Even A Bad Reputation Is Good" ~~ Here's Why:..Once We Enter A Store, Or Even Shop For An Automobile; We've Forgotten WHAT Was Said, But REMEMBER The Product....... And Advertisers KNOW It.
