Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Let's look at history since the Fall of the Soviet Union. We (and the Germans) encouraged the breakaway of all the Republics in Yugoslavia, you might as well say NATO/UN sponsored the ethnic cleansing of Croatia. We bombed Serbia, demonized the Slavic population and ignored the fact that the people running Croatia and the Croatian areas of Bosnia and the ethnic Bosnians had a pretty dark history that just went back to WWII. Yet when the same thing happens in an area that isn't pro Western, it's travesty.
The part of Ukraine that is now Russian occupied had/has a majority ethnic Russian population that the Maiden Revolution was doing it's best to disenfranchise. We didn't try to stop it. This is the payback for that mistake.
We probably should be preaching about invading other peoples country.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I absolutely supported helping out Ukraine however come FEB this will have been going on for two years and it is harder for me to believe that it is still about freedom and not about $$$. For a battered nation, Zelinski's 'war bonds tours' seem to be quite regular. How much is the rest of the world funding Ukraine? It seems to be that our citizens pay a lot for the rest of the world to be free.

MAJ Byron Oyler You are subcoming to Putins view of the western world. Given that he couldn't achieve victory in a few weeks, he now believes that he can wear down western support for Ukraine with a prolonged battle. Your comment and recent actions in Congress seem to show he is right. It's far better to pay a relatively small amount to allow Ukraine to use its troops to stop Russia than to face the massive cost if Russia defeats Ukraine and is suddenly on the NATO border. Do you honestly think there wouldn't be a push to return US troops in Europe to Cold War levels, and the costs associated with that, are better than supporting Ukraine with no US boots on ground today?

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - I agree 100% with everything you wrote however even Putin is probably getting richer with all the arms sales going on in the world supporting Ukraine. How do we really know his plan is more about wearing down western support verses drawing this out and people getting rich? I have no good argument for you except for Eisenhower's last presidential speech about the military industrial machine. I can say having been one of those troops stationed in Europe that we get a good deal out of that money spent. We develop relationships, we teach young people about Europe, and the US money spent housing me on the German economy is not wasted money. Far more people benefited from that money than the smaller military industrial machine making money for weapons.
