I like the A-10, but it inherited a CAS mission the Air Force never wanted, and the Army neither wants to take over the A-10 or devote its rotary wing assets to that mission.

LTC (Join to see) - After 30 years in politics, crafting policies, ordinances, dealing with city and county lawyers, department heads I can attest to the fact that anything can be changed. You just have to be willing to put the work in and know how far the rules can be bent to get it done.

SGT (Join to see) We did have some advocates Belated Senator John McCain. We also had former Congressman Martha Mcsally. I'm sure you remember her as being A combat pilot and a squadron commander.

These 2 were able to prevent the A-10 from being retired and almost all of them got brand new wings.

Things do not look promising right now. Things may change with a new administration.

The A10 is a proven killer. Of course, the Air Force doesn't want to fly CAS missions. It's not glamorous. Ain't no glory in keeping the infantry alive. 'USAF does the flying, combat arms does the dying'.
