I recall in the 1980's the replacement cost for weapons in the US Army was what the Army paid for them. And this price was not affected by inflation. So when our other Co command section tank(Cpt.'s tank) , ran over an M3A1 grease gun(that the army bought in WWII) , they had to pay $6 whole bucks to replace it. Another time someone crushed their 45 Auto, that was $11 bucks. Or maybe I got the prices backwards and the 45 was 6 and the M3 was 11, still either way dirt cheap.

Back in '59, we were threatened with a charge of $97.50 "replacement cost" being deducted from our meager Private's pay, if we were found with rust on our M-1. Not only that, we would not be allowed to keep that "rusty rifle".
