At FoodLion I was surprised when the young worker (Chris) told me about the Carrington Event back in the 1800's. I asked him how he knew about that...as most folks don't without an Astronomy or Signal background. He said: "I don't have a landline, so I pay attention to the sun." What a wizard!

Nothing new. I can remember getting briefings about sun flares when on alert back in the 70s. Since the flares affected some of our communications we always got briefed when there was unusual activity.

I also remember SAC came out with an explanation in regard to the Alaska Radar system that was in place to track higher altitudes unknowns A/C, they learned later that the system which was known as BMEWS, which stands for Ballistic Missile Early Warning System, was in fact receiving returns from the MOON, & that was the reason We had been put on Alert, & of course, that affected a swarm of AF bases in the US. That occurred around late 1962, or so. WE had our missile silos all over north America during that time.
