My friend LTC (Join to see) the question "Can Russia invade Europe" is similar to "Can the USA or Canada invade North America?" since Russia east of the Ural Mountains is part of Europe.
Russia has invaded western Europe over the centuries and most recently in the Great War [WWI and WWII. Alternately Russia has been invaded from the west during WWII by Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary.
The Chernobyl melt down on April 26, 1986 in Pripyat, Ukraine affected western Europe as the clouds drifted west. However most damage to life and livelihood was in the Ukraine.

It is unlikely that Russia will invade western Europe. Their interests are most likely to
1) leverage their position in the Ukraine and Georgia to assure access to the Black Sea ; and
2) defeat radical Muslims in Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia

Background from worldatlas.com/articles/what-physical-and-political-features-delineate-the-border-between-europe-and-asia.html
"The border between Europe and Asia as it exists today was first defined by Philip Johan Von Strahlenberg, an explorer and a Swedish Army officer. His border followed the chains of the Ural Mountains; Emba River to the north coast of the Caspian Sea, and the Kuma-Manych Depression which exists on the Black Sea. The depression is a name of two rivers which lie on the northern part of the Caucasus Mountains and are currently considered to be the exact boundary. The eastern boundary between the two countries cut Russia into two, the European side of Russia and the Asian part."

Hopefully, you are right.
In the meantime, Canada, the USA and Western Europe will keep pre-positioning limited war stock and training. The only thing I wish we would do is to keep the A-10 Warthogs and put many of them in the UK and in the Baltics because if Putin does his Battle of the Bulge with his superior numbers, only the Warthog will be there to slow them down. The F35 Junk Strike Fighters will be no match for the superior numbers of Soviet Armour (not to mention that 5.56mm rounds will down those jets)

Interesting video.

Climate change is real.
AND
Prudent and appropriate investments in our collective national defenses against various significant threats of today and tomorrow is essential.

We may reasonably disagree and debate what the "biggest" threat is, but we should not and can not disregard or dismiss the less than "biggest" threats.

I am 56 years old but I'm sure you remember this on TV or maybe you are serving in the military at that time. When I was a teenager, I was too afraid to join the military worried about Mutual assured destruction. Fast forward today and I'm in the military and it's a Deja Vu feeling. In my exercise that I participate in Canada called Maple Resolve, 450 Canadian soldiers are sent to Latvia to train up the latvians and be a token Force to defend against Russian aggression.

LTC (Join to see) - The reported dismal readiness conditions of the German military are professionally disappointing. I empathize with the frustrations felt by our German military comrades-in-arms. German political officials recognize the issue and are increasing their defense investments and the growing threat of a resurgent Russia to their east; the U.S. is right to encourage them and our other NATO allies to do more.

We also have to acknowledge the political realities of our allies; recall that the eastern half of Germany, a little over one generation ago, was a communist/socialist nation, with Soviet support and occupation.

Appropriate investments in national defense and taking appropriate actions to mitigate climate change are not mutually exclusive. We need to do both.

Sir, check out this Canadian brigade-level staff meeting. Recently, I met a Canadian Brigadier General who happens to be a friend of my Brigade Commander. I believe he's a deputy commander of the division that's being discussed in this video.

Russian invasion is already happening...with information warfare. Although Russia did take over part of Ukraine, it had help from Pro-Putin separatists providing intelligence and spreading propaganda. Before we worry about putting in more tanks and heavy armored vehicles, we should be concerned about their cyber capability and connections with alt-right.
