There's much more to this guy - he refused to get on a US transport - Why? Boyle was once married to Zaynab Khadr, the older sister of former Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr and the daughter of a late senior al-Qaida financier. Omar Khadr was 15 when he was captured by U.S. troops - like Boyle he's Canadian. As well Zaynab's first fiancé, Khalid Abdullah, was convicted in taking part in a bombing in Egypt. He fled to Tehran and was later sent back to Egypt and sentenced.
Seems Boyle was more afraid of been arrested than thrilled being rescued.
Coincidence?
Sure backpacking in A'stan - when he blows something up don't blame me.

The Khadr family (أسرة خضر) is an Arab-Canadian family noted for their ties to Osama bin Laden and connections to al Qaeda.[1][2]

Sgt Martin Querin
SPC David S. you nailed it! I think it shows just how trusting we are, that we believe a guy that was married to the sister of a member Al Qaida was travelling into the back country of Afghanistan "to help local villagers". Of course, there's no way he was trying to make contact with the Taliban, or some remnant of Bin Laden's network.
