Thank you, my friend SGT (Join to see) for sharing the music video of Chaka Khan and Rufus performing "Tell me something Good"
By the way in May 22, 1975, when I was stationed at Fort Campbell. "Pure Prairie League, Rufus, Earl Scruggs and Joe Cocker entertain 17,000 troups and their families at the army base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The concert, known as Music - You're My Mother, fails to break even at the box office, and base officials cancel another show planned for June 14th, the 200th anniversary of the army."
At that time there were a lot of draftees still in and racial confrontations were frequent. When Rufus left the stage and Earl Scruggs got on stage, groups of black soldiers pushed their way back through the crowd and fights broke out. I didn't get hurt in that melee.

"Tell Me Something Good"
Lyrics
"You ain't got no kind of feeling inside
I got something that'll sho nuff set yo' stuff on fire
You refuse to put anything before your pride
What I got will knock your pride aside

[CHORUS:]
Tell me something good
Tell me that you love me, yeah
Tell me something good
Tell me that you like it, yeah

Got no time is what you're known to say
(Got no time, no, got no time)
I'll make you wish there was 48 hours to each day
Your problem is you ain't been loved like you should
What I got to give will sho nuff do you good

Tell me somethin good
(tell me tell me tell me)
tell me that you love me, yeah
tell me somethin good
(tell me tell me tell me)
tell me that you like it, yeah

You ain't got no kind of feeling inside
I got something that'll sho nuff set yo' stuff on fire
You refuse to put anything before your pride
What I got will knock your pride aside

Tell me something good
Tell me that you love me, yeah
Tell me something good
Tell me that you like it, yeah

Got no time is what you're known to say
(Got no time, no, got no time)
I'll make you wish there was 48 hours to each day
Your problem is you ain't been loved like you should
What I got to give will sho nuff do you good

Tell me somethin good
(tell me tell me tell me)
tell me that you love me, yeah
tell me somethin good
(tell me tell me tell me)
tell me that you like it, yeah

You ain't got no kind of feeling inside
I got something that'll sho nuff set yo' stuff on fire
You refuse to put anything before your pride
What I got will knock your pride aside

Tell me somethin good! (oh yeah! yeah!)
Tell me that you love me yeah...
Tell me somethin good!(oh baby baby baby yeah!)
Tell me that you like it yeah!
Tell me somethin good(Oh! Tell me baby Tell me!)
Tell me that you love me...Yeah yeah, yeahyeahyeah
Tell me something good!(ohhhhh tell me tell me tell me...that you like me...yeah)"

I was stationed at Travis AFB at the same time you were at Fort Campbell, LTC Stephen Ford .. there was two concerts st a venu off base .. one was a soul music concert and of course many personnel of the “black race” were at concert.. A week later, Base Command announces a Drug urine test and had a list of 400 personnel that bought tickets through special services for the concert. Well not just Blacks bought tickets.. others did also., actually that made it good. Many of different races went to the concert.. the main prob was that a majority of tickets were purchased by black personnel and they complained with J.A.G. and the Human relations committee. The base thought they were safe because other races were at the concert too., just not enough wanted to attend.. The Blacks thought an accusation of using drugs was on the table.. J.A.G. Thought an impartial legal authority should determine the outcome. So the DEPT of the navy handled it. They determined it would keep the peace if the AF threw out the drug tests of personnel involved to dismiss any impropriety by the base drug testing. That went well.. considering over a 100 positives for unauthorized drug use Had been noted. and the AF couldn’t use them.. As for myself, I was on Leave..and not in the local area..
There were some in my duty section that might of went but they were smart to not go anyway..

the 2d concert was a country-western concert and no move was made to call for drug testing. Human relations called that not being fair by base command.
They hemmed and hawed and finally called for a ‘token’ drug test to make Human relations council happy. It only p.o.’d them . The test was called for too late on purpose the Human relstions Group
asserted. The Commsnd That Called for it, tabled it and passed on to the next command to handle it..
They held it.. just too late.. It wasn’f Their fault.. Some of those In the previous commsnd retired. One went to the Pentagon.., He was asked what was his position in carrying out the test.... filing test results .. So there wasn’t anything they could hold him for. Two others ..Base and the Wing Cmdr were recalled to answer why they waited too long . They were sent on their way. .. back to retirement
HRC was not happy. They wanted ACLU and even a senate hearing. They were told their case would be several years from being reviewed. Just not important enough. They smelled collusion between the commitee and the AF.. I think it eventually died forgotten in the archives..
