I've seen this countless times and get choked up every time. Why? Because I'm an American too

There are no words to describe the immense pride that I feel in the honor, integrity, sacrifice and shear temerity of the modern American warrior. They are the best that has ever been and continue to bring great honor and credit to this nation and their individual service.
I noted that Col. North used the term 'mate' when recounting the verbal exchange between the Reuters representative and the corpsman and must assume that the newsman must have been Australian. I am acquainted with a number of Australian and NZ veterans and know them to be of much the same temperament as we are. So it is puzzling as to why the reporter would even consider the actions of the corpsman to be odd unless newsmen from Oz are as clueless about honor (particularly on the battlefield) as most Americans of the same profession.
Thanks for posting this, Colonel; this sort of thing makes my day!

Thanks COL Mikel J. Burroughs throughout my military service [1974 to 2008] there were many who considered me and aspects of my military service to be deplorable. Certainly in my youth I was involved in deplorable activities.
As a soldier, my service was and is not deplorable.
I reasoned with my anti-military liberal relatives over the decades. They know where I stand and generally do not bring up the anti-military viewpoint - at east in my presence or via social networking.
There is a lot to said for reasoning with the opposition and treating each person with respect. It does not always result in changed minds; but, it is honorable and it certainly allows me to sleep with a clean conscience.

SSgt Boyd Herrst
Have had people ask me why I choke up for our NAT'L anthem.
"Because I served our Nation under that Flag that the Song is about and have seen the rockets firing and exploding and seen those comrades that have been wounded and given their lives. Until you've served our nation and seen what goes on you cannot really understand why Veterans get choked up. it's not just a song."

I might also mention, in addition SSGT Herrst to your excellent comment regarding our National Anthem, is our motto " In God We Trust". It may not mean much to those who have not put their lives on the line but to we Veterans and Law Enforcement Officers and other first responders it has meant everything that life is about. We have a trust that God will help us through any adversity we may face. If things go badly and we lose our most precious possession, life, then God will take us into His embrace for eternity.
