Good evening my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell and thank you for posting
As the article points out coffee is an energy drink by definition since it contains caffeine :-)
Heart problems and disease range from arterial issues with clogs, through valvular problems, to cancer.
After my mitral valve repair surgery with extensive complications in March 2003 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the chief cardiothoracic surgeon, who led my surgical team, told me I needed to avoid caffeinated coffee and use decaf. That shocked me [I was still on Dilaudid [Hydromorphone] and my lungs had significant fluid in them at that point]. Later the assistant chief cardiothoracic surgeon came in and i asked about my warranty and without skipping a beat he said zero to ten years :-)
The subject of coffee came up and he told me that for my conditions coffee and caffeine wasn't a factor and that the chief cardiothoracic surgeon told all cardio patients to quit caffeinated coffee [if they drank it]
