First I am glad that Lt. Gen. Christopher Bogdan, the F-35 program executive officer, struck a conciliatory tone when asked about Trump’s recent comments “billions of dollars can and will be saved” about the F-35 joint strike fighter SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. At least Bogdan stated Trump’s desire to root out waste and efficiency is commendable.
Unfortunately coming a long way since the program's inception in 2011 is not the standard to meet.
The Initial Operational Capability requirement including its subordinate milestones is what needs to be met. There comes a point in time where the program needs t be evaluated by cool heads to see if its should be extended until it meets the requirements or terminated losses cut.

As the program manager for the F-35, he is literally paid to advocate for the F-35. The rest of us might start agreeing with him if it started performing better than the aircraft it is intended to replace. And I don't mean that it has newer weapons systems, which could be put onto existing air frames at a dramatically lower price.
