The MASKS have been a farce from day one!!! Cloth masks were shown not to help and the paper masks were designed for protecting one from dust and the like, not a micro organism like a virus!!!
N-95 Masks are what medical people use in a hospital environment, but they are not cheap and have a short useful life...
Before anyone starts casting unfounded biased negative aspersions, about Ron DeSantis, know this: Ron DeSantis Background, compliments of Wikipedia.

DeSantis received his Reserve Naval officer's commission and assignment to the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) in 2004 at the U.S. Naval Reserve Center in Dallas, Texas, while still a student at Harvard Law School. He completed Naval Justice School in 2005. Later that year, he received orders to the JAG Trial Service Office Command South East at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, as a prosecutor. He was promoted from lieutenant, junior grade to lieutenant in 2006. He worked for the commander of Joint Task Force-Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO), working directly with detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Joint Detention Facility.[17][18][19]
In 2007, DeSantis reported to the Naval Special Warfare Command Group in Coronado, California, where he was assigned to SEAL Team One and deployed to Iraq[20] with the troop surge as the Legal Advisor to the SEAL Commander, Special Operations Task Force-West in Fallujah.[17][18][19]
DeSantis returned to the U.S. in April 2008, at which time he was reassigned to the Naval Region Southeast Legal Service. The U.S. Department of Justice appointed him to serve as an assistant U.S. attorney[20] at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Florida. DeSantis was assigned as a trial defense counsel until his honorable discharge from active duty in February 2010. He concurrently accepted a reserve commission as a lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the US Navy Reserve.[21] He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal.[17][18][19]" Wikipedia

After I wrote my response, I did view your other comments... When one reads the specifications on the mask to the left it does detail that they are not anti-viral, but I concur with you regarding keeping the wearers slobber and spittle contained... I yield to your expertise in the infectious disease field...

MSgt Robert "Rock" Aldi I'm fairly certain any one of us as a teen or kid, approached as they were by an adult with his finger "emphatically" emphasizing his words, would quite possibly feel intimidated if we'd been raised to "respect our elders" so I would challenge the "non-intimidating" manner you presume.

MSgt Robert "Rock" Aldi your earlier comment that the Gov approached the kids in a "non-intimidating manner" He was in fact intimidating and his abrupt tone and finger-pointing further indicators that he was "berating" them. He's the "elder" we teach kids to respect, in theory.

Hear Hear ! not to mention he told vice president Harris that he did not have time for posturing and games because he was trying to save lives.

MAJ Ken Landgren Everyone is entitled to their opinion Major. I have no issue with people wearing them or not. To each their own.

And the studies conducted over decades with TB, Influenza & other airborne/aerosol/droplet exposures to pathogens have repeatedly demonstrated masks and respirators do have an impact on reducing disease transmission.

For the non-believers of masks, I ask upon you, why do many millions of Japanese ride in crowded trains literally touching each other and their pandemic metrics are significantly better than ours. They break the rules on Closed spaces, Crowded places, and Close-contact settings. The Japanese all wore masks. I will entertain theories why this is the case. Hygiene, healthy people, they are cleaner than us. I do not see those variables contributing to Japan's 27 times better death rate than the US.
I challenge anyone to give me some analysis to include appropriate variables to claim masks don't work.
