Gary Ivan Gordon (August 30, 1960 – October 3, 1993) was a Master Sergeant in the United States Army and a recipient of the Medal of Honor. At the time of his death, he was a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army's premier special operations unit, the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1SFOD-D), or "Delta Force".
Together with his comrade, Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart, Gordon was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for actions he performed during the Battle of Mogadishu in October 1993.

Thanks SGT John " Mac " McConnell for honoring MSG Gary Ivan Gordon on his birthday SFC Randy Shughart who were both awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously for their efforts to protect a downed helicopter pilot in the Battle of Mogadishu, Somalia which served as the plot in the movie Black Hawk Down.
These two Delta Force snipers volunteered to leave the relative safety of the sky to be inserted into an intense inner city firefight to protect a downed pilot.
Kudos to MSG Gary Ivan Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart and the men of 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1SFOD-D), or "Delta Force."
