Similar to the fact that making mistakes is the best way for children to learn, it seems reasonable that the programming undergirding artificial intelligence mirrors that concept SSgt (Join to see).
Of course this requires a feedback loop to function well. In the real world pain, discomfort and disappointment are the usual feedback loops for young children and more mature people like us.
