Thank you my friend CSM Charles Hayden for reminding us about the capture of PFC Jessica Dawn Lynch after 507th Maintenance Company was ambushed by Iraqi forces during the
Battle of Nasiriyah on March 23, 2003.
Most of the were killed 507th Maintenance Company in the ambush and she was seriously injured and taken to a hospital as a POW.
Thankfully she was rescued on April 1, 2003 by U.S. Special Operations Forces.
Interesting to me, is the fact that at the time of her capture, I was a cardio-thoracic patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the cardio-thoracic ward.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel During my travels, I purposefully drove thru Palestine, Wirt County, WV in 2003 (or 04).
The Wirt County Courthouse was eye catching. Four white columns, perhaps 60 feet high graced the front of the Courthouse.
A white banner was stretched across those pillars with yellow letters reading: WELCOME HOME JESSICA.
A great display of small town America doing what it does best, being Home!
