Thanks for sharing a background on the Korean Conflict Armistice which was signed on July 27, 1953 TSgt Joe C.. This armistice never solved the conflict but has served to drag out hostilities between North and South Korea. Korean families have been broken apart since 1953 in too many cases.
1. The Armistice document was signed by US LTG William K Harrison and his counterpart from the North's army, General Nam Il, and was aimed at a ceasefire "until a final peaceful settlement is achieved".
2. The fact that the UN helped bring about the armistice is considered a success. I think of it as a failure since it merely kicked all cans down the road to an unrealistic and unspecified endpoint.
3. Many of us remember that on March 11, 2013 the North Korean army officially declared the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War in 1953 to be invalid. This was in response to the U.N. Security Council passing tougher sanctions against North Korea in response to its February 12, 2013 nuclear test.
