This passage was posted on FaceBook in the group MASSACHUSETTS FALLEN SOLDIERS by Rick Long. I find it fitting to post this song today.
In 2012, singer songwriter Lee Brice released "I drive your truck", a song that went to country music song of the year the following year.
The "I" in the title is Paul Monti, a science teacher from Raynham. The truck's owner is his son Jared, who lost his life in Afghanistan in an action for which he received the Medal of Honor.
Six years ago, Paul was denied permission to place a flag on the grave of his son. The authorities didn't want to be left cleaning things up. Paul took it up the chain of command until he received permission - he could put it in, as long as he agreed to take it out a week later.
So that's what he did. On every one of the 52,000 graves in the Bourne National Cemetery.
It's now an annual Memorial Day event, hundreds of volunteers joining the Monti family in placing tens of thousands of flags.
I am humbled and rejuvenated, being in the company of so many Patriots. -Rick Long
