CW5, I read the report by Mr. Wood.
It is well written and focuses two main topics. Marine Corp assault in the Pacific similar to WW2 and the national emergency after 9-11 is over. Which was the main reason to increase Force Recon now known as Marine Raiders.
It was good to read a report that desires the Marine Corp to get back to it's original mission. Navy/Marine Corp missions to destroy the enemy from the sea and deny enemy use of name your island. I agree with the point he makes on this issue.
He sees China in the Pacific as the main threat moving forward. This maybe true. But I see China as half of the problem.
Mr. Wood mentions Russia and the cold weather fighting it may require to deny Russia nothern movement. I did not read much on the global war on the world Islam appears to be making. Both Sunni and Shia. We see it in the ME, Africa, Europe, America and in the Pacific. I think it is growing and with Russia, Turkey, Iran, Syria and their Islamic terrorist supported groups will attack Israel. Most of those listed have stated it as their goal. So, the Marine Corp MEU and Naval forces should consider that combined with Air force and Army friends to work together.
I have seen Army Airborne units next to Marine Corp Platoons. Mr. Woods does not wirte much on this subject. IMO, it is a very important for the Marine Corp to train along side the Army Airborne groups. Nothing destroys the enemies confidence as a MEU hitting the beach and Airborne landing forward and lateral to hit the enemy as it comes into view moving backwards away for the beach. Add a little Warthog, or artillery and America wins. Marine Raiders are needed for forward operations and pooping in the enemies Post-Toasties ahead of MEU attacks.
My last point on Mr. Woods report. I do not want to write a book here on RP.
Mr. Wood did not touch on the PC BS that has destroyed the Marine Corp IMO. Gender neutral PFT my arse! That is code for my mommie can pass the Marine Corp Infrantry PFT and everyone might as well wear pink panties. Marine Raider PFT, just to get in to start training, is what the Marine Corp Infantry PFT should go back to. Humans can justify anything. But I know for a fact, girls are nothing like the hard d***s needed to fight the enemy listed above.
This does not mean I do not like, or respect women. I know they can shoot and fly. What I am writing about is not PC. But it is a more correct truth.
Make the Marine Corp the men's department once again. Unless, that was the whole point. To destory the men's department?
