I had to chuckle. Sometime in the past someone identified the need for someone to open the door. (Probably Christmas when the President was loaded down with all the gifts he was taking congressmen) Somehow it got passed to the Marine Corps. As Marines went to fill the need, two things happened. First they marveled and complained that those d*** civilians couldn't open their own door, and second, they decided how they could make themselves look good while they did it!
