A shame to have to retire this beautiful Carrier after so many years of duty to our Country! Too bad it could not become a floating Museum, Like the Battleship USS Massachusetts BB-59 in Fall River, Massachusetts

PFC (Join to see) It is too expensive to maintain but it would be funny to put the aircraft Carrier and have her run aground like they did the LST.

LTC (Join to see) - Col, I think yoiur Frat brother was pulling your leg a bit. The Enterprise had Eight (8) A2W reactors. Those were initially built for Submarines They were the only marine reactors the Navy had at the time. Not all 8 reactors were used for propulsion. The Enterprise was fast though. She had a Cruiser designed Hull, 4 screws and the only ship in the NAVY to ever have 4 rudders and Her top speed is still classified, even though she has been inactivated and decommissioned for a number of years. She still is the fastest capital warship ever built. (A hydrofoil is not considered a Capital Warship) On 9-11 when the Skipper heard the news report, the Enterprise and her escorts were at the mouth of the Med getting ready to head home. He did a 180 and headed back to the sand box at flank speed. (balls to the wall) he left his escorts on the horizon. (at sea level that's 7 miles) When they finally caught up to the Enterprise She was Already on site had one flight in the air finishing its patrol and preparing to recover, so they could launch a second flight. (all this is documented in her ships log) One of Enterprise's motto's is "Ready of Arrival" and she always was. She could out run and out turn any ship in the fleet, and there was never anything before or after that could or can match her. That is why the ENTERPRISE and all who carry the name will be "The Legend"

PO2 Rev. Frederick C. Mullis, AFI, CFM thank you for the reality check, Shipmate, and I was told today's carriers can also outrun a 30 knot plus DDG.I was on a DDG last week in Everett, WA. A LT JG took us on a tour. One E-7 in my staff worked as Civilian Police Captain on post. The DDG USS Momsen was the highlight of the Summer. I was on 25 days of Army Reserve Active Duty
