Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that during a punishing snowstorm, the German army launches a new attack against French forces on the high ground of Mort-Homme, on the left bank of the Meuse River, near the fortress city of Verdun, France, on Mar 06, 1916.
As any infantryman knows attacks in a snowstorm or driving rain gives an advantage to a well-trained and organized attacking force.
My paternal grandfather fought in the trench warfare of France and Belgium as British expeditionary force lance corporal. He died when I was young and I never heard him speak of the experience and how and where he was wounded.
