For as long as I can remember China and the Soviet Union/Russia have had a love hate relationship. They love to hate each other, so any alliance made today will probably be just as quickly be broken tomorrow.

This is very interesting and unique. The Soviets are reeling from incurring substantial losses, much like David and Goliath! The perceived bully is being beat at their own game, which serves them right!

Russia and China do cooperate on some matters, but it is unlikely to be a full alliance. Each nation is concerned with itself first and is unlikely to make a huge sacrifice on behalf of the other.

For Russia, China is neither a 'big bad wolf' nor a 'fairy godmother'
This month, while the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit was being held, the Global Times, an English-language Chinese newspaper, published an op-ed describing Russia-China relations. The op-ed dismissed predictions of Russia being devoured by the “big bad wolf” and hopes of the country being rescued by the “fairy godmother” as both fairy tale fantasies.
