I swear, the still image that you click on to view this video looks like the paratrooper jumped before the plane left the ground and was flattened when he hit the runway...

Do our Paratroopers “bail out” of flying aircraft?
I though that was a function performed by distressed pilots? I’m a Leg!

Never happened to me, COL David Turk. I was scared on my first jump, but I exited the aircraft without an assist.
However, when I went to jump school the Black Hats still wore shiny black Corcoran jump boots and I did see a few student jumpers get a big black boot in the fanny if they hesitated in the door! They would’ve jumped anyway, I’m sure, but the Black Hats thought that if you got to the door...you were jumping. They just hastened the student jumper’s thought process!

[~67210:LTC Stephen - as a “leg”, I’m going by hearsay. Been by the towers at Bragg and Benning many a time, but only as an observer (except for repelling towers).

COL David Turk, I was never an Army jumpmaster, but as a civilian skydiver, I was a USPA rated jumpmaster and put many students out on their first jump. I was lucky in that I never had a jumper refuse to jump. I did have a few that hesitated though, but when they were “out on the strut”, I made sure they jumped!

No worries and you’re welcome to it, Cynthia C. This photo has been all over the internet, so it’s not mine anyway!
