I love the 1903 Springfield, that a great weapon in my opinion and very easy to use and very accurate. I'd say pretty much the same thing about the M1 Garand as to being accurate but with its semi auto capability easier to get off your rounds more quickly. The bolt action Springfield's were still used for years as sniper rifles with scopes added.
In another use, ceremonies, they have done the manual of arms with both the Springfield 03 and the M1 Garand and like them both for that. The Army drill team I believe still uses the Springfield 03 for their drill exhibitions. Our American Legion Post has Springfield 03 for firing Squad salute and drill and I have taught the manual of Arms to out people on that weapon along with people from the AMVETS Post. I actually had them fall into a formation and taught that. For some it was just bring back something they hadn't done for a while. Another nice feature about the 03 is Your not going to get an M1 Thumb, I've had one once when first learning, I don't want to have that happen again ever.
