Interesting read. I love the fact Australians have latched on to this and are proud of it.

SFC (Join to see) I had misunderstood the Australian prison system. When I visited Tasmania's unused Port Arthur prison, I thought it was THE Australian prison for Britain's convicts. Checking now, I see Port Arthur was for psychological mis/treatment of the hardcore types. It was on an island at the tip of a peninsula near Hobart, Tasmania.

That's awesome you were able to go! I can't wait to go to Australia. I will have to add this to the areas I want to see when I go. I have a uncle who lives there and has told us of so many interesting historical sights that you don't really know about unless you live, or have been their. He says because they are still such a new country themselves, outside countries don't usually pay their history any mind.

SFC (Join to see), did your uncle tell you about Ned Kelly? It seems that the Bushrangers are the traditional heroes in Australia.
